Rye Fire History

Rye Fire Protection District (RFPD) was formed in 1938 as a volunteer service. After 53 years of public service, in 2001 it became a career/paid department comprised of full and part-time employees. These dedicated individuals work together to respond to over 900 emergency response calls annually to a community of roughly 8000 residents and visitors. The department’s coverage area is 233 square miles of interstate, highway, commercial, residential, San Isabel National Forest, and open space. We operate out of two stations to provide fire, hazardous materials, and EMS to the Greenhorn Valley.
